Frenzied Frenzy
It has been a mad, mad weekend... a frenzied frenzy of cooking and baking, and back-breaking work in the kitchen. What have I been up to, you ask?
• Well, tomorrow is Duan Wu Jie, otherwise known as Dumpling Festival, or more popularly known to Westerners as Dragon Boat Festival. This is one of the five major Chinese festivals (the others being Dong Zhi or Winter Solstice, Spring Festival or Chinese New Year, Yuan Xiao or Lantern Festival, and Mooncake Festival); and one that my family celebrates every year without fail. Unfortunately, this year, we left the dumpling making to the very last minute. So, it was 1½ days of hard work making dumplings over the weekend! The post will be coming up tomorrow.
• On top of that, it was Father’s Day yesterday; I also had to squeeze in some baking amidst all that dumpling-wrapping. Unfortunately, the cake that I made for my dad turned out to be my first disappointment from Alice Medrich’s CALFD. ![]()
• After a day of frenetic dumpling-making and cake-baking, there was still the cooking of Father’s Day dinner to be fitted in, somehow. The family had opted not to join the Father’s Day throngs at the restaurants and eateries; we celebrated instead with several of my dad’s favorite home-cooked dishes.
• Then, this Thursday is a rather special day… special for me at least
.
So, lots and lots of things to tell you about over the next few days…

Renee,
I'm so sorry that you've been so busy...and I was so looking forward to seeing what you would do with this latest incarnation of IMBB. Oh well, maybe next time. Hope it slows down a bit for you. Don't worry about us, we can wait! =) Well...maybe not too long!

Hi Renee,
Happy Duan Wu Jie :)

Isn't it interesting that in Singapore you celebrate Mother's day at the same time as in Australia (and the UK, I think) but with Father's day it is celebrated with the Americans. In Australia Father's Day is in September (with the UK? Can anybody confirm that?).
Anyway, happy birthday for Thursday...? :-)

Reid,
yeah, it was quite a bummer to have to miss this round... but I really don't think I could have fitted anymore cooking into the weekend! lol. plus... we have lots more cooking to do tomorrow (or more accurately, later today actually) for the family reunion dinner for the festival!
I think that's already exceeded my quota of cooking for the entire week in just 2 days! : D
I certainly hope to be back in the thick of things in the next round ; )
hi Anita,
same to you... wishing you a Happy Duan Wu Jie!
did you make any dumplings this year?
hi Niki,
heh. it is rather curious... S'pore being an ex-British colony and all, but yet choosing to take after the Americans when it comes to celebrating Mother's (2nd Sunday of May) and Father's Days (3rd Sunday of June).
I think the British Mother's Day is in March, right? can't remember which Sunday of March though.
oh, never even realized that the British Father's Day is in Sept.
and... : ) good guess! thanks for the wishes : )

Hi Renee
In case I don't the chance to visit your blog on Thursday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY in advance!
I am now a complete devotee to your blog...how are you celebrating your birthday? Surely not with more cooking and baking? What's your ideal birthday meal?
I have read more or less of all your previous posts - very informative and truly a labour of love! If you ever have a chance to come to Kuala Lumpur, I'd be more than happy to take you to my favourite 'kon lo' mee stalls!
In the meantime, do keep up your shiokadelicious blogs!
Have an enjoyable, mouth-watering, delectable, exquisite, joyous, scrumptious and irresisitble birthday!
Alice
