Hmmm…

Hmmm… seems like my blog has become part of the menu – the reading menu that is – of the NUS (National University Singapore).

This is rather unexpected…

Interesting…

And oh, did you know that Amazon.com now sells all sorts of stuff; like cookware, bakeware, kitchen gadgets and even Kitchenaid? I didn’t. Okay, I am probably a real laggard about this (I haven’t been surfing Amazon in ages), but it’s amazing what they are selling on that site now. Amazing Amazon…

Just spent a good hour of precious time drooling over and dreaming about a new Kitchenaid and a Le Creuset Dutch Oven. Oh! These kitchen gadgets and toys are so wicked, I tell you! Well, they’ve gone on my wishlist (wishful dreaming has never hurt anyone I say). Besides, I always believe: you never know when you are going to get lucky icon_lol.gif

Wanna see my wishlists? (Yeah, plural, not singular. I’ve got two wishlists… one with amazon.com and one with amazon.co.uk. I would prefer it if they can link all the International sites together and make life easier, but there you have it; the things consumers have to do to distinguish between the UK editions and US editions of the books they want.)

Okay, I think that’s enough nonsense from me for one night… I’m off…

How very cool, Renee! Did you see that amazon.co.uk are also selling kitchenware too? Their selection isn't quite as interesting as amazon.com though :(

... and you're sharing the podium with Nelson Mandela!! Curiouser and curiouser...

Well done - you can now truly say your blog is required reading!

i always knew u were an icon! :)

Angela,
it is quite, isn't it? : )
yes I did... which also made me realize that I shouldn't have had the KitchenAid on the US Amazon list, because the wattage is incompatible... we're on the UK system... so, I had to shift the KitchenAid over to the UK one, but then again, I highly doubt they would ship a KitchenAid all the way to S'pore anyway! LoL.
I am just amazed that the US site is selling See's Chocolates!
only the thought of a box of melted chocolates landing on my doorstep stopped me from putting in an order! : p

Jeanne,
thanks : )
although I'm still not sure why that particular page is even worth including...
anyway, stranger things have happened. LoL.

Toru,
: D
haha! you're always too kind to me... I think I am far far from being that : )

It's pretty darn impressive that you are required reading and will be analyzed. Don't you want to hear what they say about you?

Very nice Wish Lists. I finally got my Kitchenaid 2 years ago, after years of constant whining and broad hints dropped before my birthday. That machine is fabulous. Anyone on a required reading list deserves her own Kitchenaid!!!!

Hi Renee,
I couldn't resist joining in this time round...noticed that you have paella pans on both your lists...are we going to see some luscious and yummy paella a la Renee posted soon? My neck's long like a giraffe's.

actuarrryy i got my kitchenaid mixer 3 years back :p after much drooling over it. since they dun sell it off the shelves, we managed to tracked down the distributor and hv to drive all the way out to some ulu place to get it. its my christmas pressie :p

IMHO, the size is kinda too huge for normal portion baking :p well not dat i bake a lot. usually i double up or add another half portion for the recipe else the mixer cant reach the ingredients on the bowl.

the mixer is now sitting on my counter top, looking pretty lonely... sighhh maybe i need to wait a couple of more years for my boiboi to grow a little then we can both bake together ;)

Renee,

Congratulations! I always knew that I was talking to a legend in the making! It was bound to happen sooner or later... =) I actually think that it's wonderful that you're part of the required reading for this class, it should tell you how wonderful you are at telling us about everything that you happen to write about.

By the way, I noticed your wishlists...were you thinking of chocolate today? =)

The Kitchen Aid stand mixer is a beauty. You went for the most expensive one which is brushed nickel. You can get one in chrome for almost half the price (USD $229) when it's on sale. That mixer is also on my wishlist as well. I'm going to try and buy it for Christmas! =)

i agree with reid...i have always wondered why spore never had a celebrity chef...u should approach someone to start ur own show :) I am sure u could be the nigella lawson/martha stewart of singapore...

and when you are rich and famous...dont forget us who were the first to recognise your true genius...

hi Sher!
I guess it is... but also imagine them ripping my site apart and saying all sorts of nasty things about my writings! yikes!
haha! : D lucky you, that someone picked up on your hints ; )
actually I'm currently using my mum's hand-me-down machine which is almost 30 years old!! and I think it really needs to be retired (ahem! ; ))
it's a Kenwood... which I actually prefer really... seems less bulky than the Kitchenaid.
is Kenwood an Asian (or Japanese?) brand? Amazon doesn't seem to sell it.

hey Shirley!
so nice to have you drop a note here : )
yeah, been wanting to make paella for the longest time. it is nay impossible to find decent paella in S'pore, don't you think?
I suppose I could always make paella in a normal skillet, but cooking is so much more fun when using the appropriate toy (oops, I mean tool... ahem ; )), don't you agree? : D
my neck is also growing very long... waiting for a paella pan! lol!

hi babe kl,
really? hadn't realized that could be a problem: the mixing bowl being too large for smaller quantities.
what capacity is your machine, if I may ask?
I'm sure you'll have lots of fun and create lots of wonderful memories when you start baking with your son : )

hi Reid,
thanks : )
legend?!?! me thinks you flatter me too much... far, far from it I think : )
I feel this is a fluke thing actually...
hehe... no, no imminent choc attack at the moment... the chocolate books have been on my wishlist for ages... but some of the ones that I realized I would prefer in the UK/European editions I have only just moved over to the UK Amazon site : )
oops... oh dear, didn't realize that... I just went for the shiny metallic one... 'cos didn't like any of the bright colors... haha... thanks for pointing it out : )

hi Toru,
got wat... urm, let's see... Violet Oon ; ) urm.... urm... who else, ah? : p
haha! I like how you put it: "nigella lawson of S'pore"... can you see me doing "gastro-porn" on TV? : D
well, if anyone from Discovery Channel, or Food Network or even Star TV is reading this... ahem! ; D
and of course I'll always remember Toru, whether I'm famous or not : )

I can't imagine anyone saying bad things about your site. Really. If they do---it's just "crazy talk", as my relatives from the South term anything that conflicts with their views.

My mixer was also a Kenwood, and it was very nice. But it wasn't as big as the Kitchenaid, which can handle some very tough doughs, such as rye bread. That's quite a relief for my hands, which have a bit of arthritis in them.

good morning renee,

well i find it a problem as the beater/whisk is kinda a bit far away from the bowl. so its not good for smaller amount of ingredient. my bowl is 4.5 quart (hehehe not sure of metric measurement as i got from here http://kitchenaid.suresource.com/itemdetail-netcache.asp?uid=2004062920470837&isstand;=Y&Item;=K45SSWH&edp;=23410&itemcat;=K45SSZZ)

dats wat i've got. mine's yellow :D

Posted by: babe_kl | June 30, 2025 08:59 AM

hi Sher,
you are so encouraging : ) thanks.
ooh, thanks for that tip... had not realized that.
would love to have something that can mix heavy doughs as well.
heh. now I'm really wishing for a kitchenaid. lol.
oh, also just realized (after doing a Google) that Kenwood is now called Delonghi in the US, while we still call it Kenwood here : )

good afternoon, babe kl : )
thanks so much for the link!
looks good! can imagine what a nice cheery color the yellow is : )
oh, just another question: is the machine very heavy? I tend to keep my mixer in the cupboard and only drag it out when I want to bake (counter space is premium real estate in this household. lol!)

Posted by: Renee | June 30, 2025 01:58 PM

wow its a darn heavy piece of metal and its kinda bulky too... weighted 27.3 lbs which is 12.383kg!!! just make sure yr shelves r strong enuff to hold it!

Posted by: babe_kl | July 1, 2025 09:26 AM
