Satiated At Last!
About 2 weeks (?) ago, I blogged about my craving for Malaysian-style konlo mee / wantan mee. Well, today I finally got to eat the noodles from the said stall. My mum ta-powed it as lunch for me (isn’t she sweet?). Am satiated now. ![]()
Cooked an Indian-style yogurt chicken for dinner tonight, but will post about it some other time… am tired now… it has been a very long day. G’nite! Happy konlo mee-ing!
Update: Just found out from my mum today that the food centre at Redhill Close Market will be closing on Monday (8/12), and moving to temporary premises next to Redhill MRT station (where the old HDB blocks have been torn down). They'll be there for a year whilst existing premises are upgraded. But I think some stall-owners may be choosing to take a break for a year, so won't be around during that time. : (

i've got to do something about my silly craving for food and this darn diet i'm on ... hahahha
btw, that's actually the HK version of wantan mee. KL's so in love with HK that we south east asians tend to forget the roots... but yeah...
the original wantan mee hails from Hong Kong.

maybe that's why diet is a "die" with a "t"! ha ha : D
ya, this is actually sold as wantan mee... as far as I know, the concept and/or name "konlo mee" doesn't exist in S'pore - we can't get true-blue M'sian style or Sarawakian style konlo mee in S'pore...
and this is the very first stall that I have found that serves the wantan mee with noodles that have the texture and sauce combination of the M'sian konlo mee - as opposed to the true HK wantan mee that can be found everywhere in S'pore
(HK wantan mee uses noodles with ALOT of alkaline water to make it "Q" and the sauces used to toss the noodles are quite different in taste)
so to me, this version that I ate was M'sian-style konlo mee, even tho' it did not have the minced meat of a true M'sian konlo mee... and even tho' technically it is a wantan mee, it had the closest noodle texture and taste (by which I define konlo mee and not by the ingredients that accompany the mee) that I have found...
even the bak chor mee (noodles with minced meat) found in S'pore is very different in taste and texture from M'sian konlo mee...
well, beggars can't be choosers... so this works as konlo mee for me : ) satisfies my craving and makes me happy...
a case of a rose by any other name is still a rose? ; )

one thing for sure... being born and having lived in singapore ... then raised in a place as obscure as Kelantan as well as Kuala Lumpur (That's my home, babe!!).... and having a second home in HK (dad's been there fr the past 3 years already...) I still trust the KL has the best food among all three... although I really like the mee pok in singapore and the hainanese chicken rice...
:)

yes, HK had good food until all the good chefs left for Vancouver before 1997! I've always had excellent Chinese food in Vancouver - way better than HK!
I'm not too familiar with KL food though. Even though I have many friends in KL, I never get taken to the hawker or local eating places when I visit : (
btw, just curious (& kay poh abit) are you M'sian or S'porean?

I'm Malaysian and extremely proud of it because Malaysia has the best food!!! :.
I think over in Singapore near People's Park (hope I got the name right, I used to live where Haigsville drive was, but my sense of direction is horrible) they have passable Wantan mee that is almost like what we have in KL. Although you need to come to Restoran Koon Kee in KL for the best wantan mee in the whole world.
Not as clean as Singapore, nevertheless the food is better!
