oh btw, from a linguistic-history POV, the work 'shiok' is something akin to 'gostan', it probably comes from the English 'Shock!' from 'Oh goodness it gave me a great shock!', just like how 'gostan' comes from 'Go Astern'.

hmmm... can't seem to get them onto the comments box tho'...
isn't it interesting how the Straits Settlers took English and Malay and created (though some might call it "bastardised") a language that is so uniquely their own... and part of which has become so ingrained in South East Asian culture that we so often don't know why we say what we say!
